Lots of people dream of moving from mainland USA to Hawaii, the ideal island getaway. So why did Kiran Addepalli, the founder of OpenGambit, and his family decide to wave goodbye to the beach and hello to the decidedly less tropical climate of North Carolina in the winter? It all came down to the incredible opportunities that NC’s Research Triangle offers to a growing software business.
As a passionate user and developer of Open Source software, OpenGambit can take full advantage of a location close to the heart of the Linux community, a stone’s throw from the RedHat offices. We’re looking forward to building face-to-face relationships with that community, learning even more about the tools we use and helping to develop new ones to help others achieve low-cost software solutions. Clients will benefit from the convenience of the new location, as well as from our new opportunities to develop our products. OpenGambit plans to leverage this change of location to stay even more current with the state of Open Source technology, offering clients cutting-edge solutions to keep their service state-of-the-art and optimized for their needs.
OpenGambit is also proud to now be based in one of the most educated areas in the US. Thanks to the impressive universities and research institutions in the Triangle, the area boasts an incredibly high concentration of holders of advanced degrees. We plan to work with these institutions in a variety of capacities, and to offer our own expertise to students who are considering joining us in the IT field. Through mentorship, guest lecturing, and internship programs, we’re excited to get to know the students of the Triangle area and have a hand in helping them develop to their full potential.
This move is exciting news for business. Without annoying time-zone differences and flight times to worry about, we will be able to reach a whole new market of mainland US-based enterprises who stand to benefit from low-cost, customized IT solutions. But since moving here, we’ve found that the community itself and the people around us are the greatest asset of this area. We’re looking forward to making our home here for a good, long time, and truly becoming a part of what makes the Triangle such a unique place to live and work.
